Influence of Resin Bonded Wheel Characteristics on Grinding Wheel Performance

(1) Abrasive Material:
Common abrasives used in cut-off wheels include Brown Fused Alumina (A), White Fused Alumina (WA), Zirconia Alumina (ZA), and Black Silicon Carbide (C). The most widely used is Brown Fused Alumina due to its high hardness, high toughness, sharp grains, strong adaptability, and lower cost compared to other abrasives. White Fused Alumina has higher hardness and greater brittleness than Brown Fused Alumina, producing less grinding heat. Due to its higher price, it is used when workpiece thermal deformation must be minimized, and it is also used as a mixed abrasive for processing special materials. Black Silicon Carbide features high hardness, good brittleness, sharp cutting edges, excellent self-sharpening properties, and good thermal conductivity, making it advantageous for processing non-ferrous metals, plastics, rubber, and cast iron.

(2) Abrasive Grain Size:
Commonly used grit sizes range from 22# to 80#. The finer the grit, the relatively lower the cutting efficiency. Therefore, the choice should be balanced according to processing requirements.

(3) Wheel Hardness:
Common hardness grades include P, Q, R, N, and S, with grades ranging from H to T applicable to different cutting environments.

(4) Bonding Agent:
